PACEM IN TERRIS QUICK FACTS
The Pacem In Terris program is a four-year course of study that, in addition to career
preparation, teaches peace by promoting compassion for others through discussion, reflection, and
International students are chosen for the Pacem In Terris program based on their academic
potential, their leadership capabilities, and their genuine willingness to return to their homelands
upon completion of their studies to put their experience to work improving their countries.
International Pacem In Terris students make up about one of every four of the school's 1,240
La Roche coordinates the selection of international Pacem In Terris students in conjunction with
concerned businesses, government ministries, non-governmental agencies and academic authorities.
Each of these sectors also is involved in developing course content and in providing internships
so that Pacem In Terris students are effectively prepared to assume leadership roles in the economy
of their home countries.
In the nine years since its founding, Pacem In Terris has enrolled more than 300 students from
27 countries outside the United States.
International Pacem In Terris students are provided with a variety of specialized academic and
social support services, which help the program achieve a student-retention rate of some 95 percent.
The program has produced 55 graduates now working outside the United States in their homelands
of Bosnia, Macedonia, Croatia, Haiti, and Rwanda in government and private sector positions, as teachers, bankers, information system managers,
and health care researchers.
Pacem In Terris offers both full and partial scholarships, based on predetermined criteria.
The annual cost of educating a Pacem In Terris student for one year, including medical expenses,
transportation, and other costs, exceeds $20,000.
Funding for Pacem In Terris scholarships comes from a combination of US and international
government investment; private foundation, business and organizational philanthropy; and the
generosity of committed individuals.
Pacem In Terris is designated as a 501(c)(3) organization.
